Getting Started

This guide provides an overview of product features and related technologies. In addition, it contains recommendations on best practices, tutorials for getting started, and troubleshooting information for common situations.

Kinesis Survey is a web-based tool for designing and publishing web, wireless, or multi-mode web/wireless surveys in one or more languages. It supports most complex market research functions and is designed to interact with the majority of public access and privately maintained panels and panel management software. It also includes the ability to email to privately maintained lists, and provides a variety of real-time reports, along with the ability to publish data to websites. All aspects of the system allow for branding.

For a guided walkthrough, click here to view a recording of the Kinesis Survey Beginner's Overview webinar that took place on April 30th, 2013. The session covers basic Survey functionality for new users of the software.

1:  Finding Help

Because new features are continually being introduced, and because there are always new research methodologies introduced, this manual is intended to be an introduction to the system. More information, generally more up-to-date, can be found under the Help menu within the application and context-sensitive files are found for all features throughout the system wherever the  icon is seen.

If you can not find a topic you are looking for using the menu above, try using the 'Search' feature on the sidebar or your browser's 'Find' feature to search the contents of a page for keywords. If you still can not find what you are looking for or have any questions with the available content, please contact Technical Support.

2:  Kinesis Survey Questionnaire Guidelines

2.1:  Download the Kinesis Survey Guidelines PDF

By following our loose guidelines, you can reduce programming times for your web surveys by a significant amount while insuring a high level of quality. Additional benefits of using these guidelines include:

  • Easier copying and pasting of question text/answer options – less typos, missed options, etc.
  • Faster, safer modifications for updated versions of the questionnaire.
  • Clear, consistent programming instructions that are less likely to be copied over as question/answer option text.
  • Questionnaire can be easily used for testing of survey data because question #s and option values will match data set.
  • Easier identification and removal of extra programming notes prior to supplying final questionnaire back to end client (if necessary).

3:  Survey Project Selection Page Overview

Upon logging into the installation you will be directed to the Survey Project Selection page. This page lists all survey projects created on the install. You must either click to open a previous project or select "Create new survey" to start a new a new project.
