Exit Page Manager (Survey)

In the event that you are using sample from one or more panels, you probably want to use the exit page manager. The exit page manager provides means to report respondent statuses back to the panel companies in real-time fashion when the respondents complete the survey. The exit pages can also be used to send completing respondent back to any URL or post survey data to third party systems.

1:  Exit Page Templates

Use the exit page template manager to store frequently used exit pages. The exit page templates are available installation wide from one survey to another. Kinesis Survey provides you with pre-designed exit page templates that work with several panel providers. If the panel vendor you use is not on the list click on the "Add new template" button to quickly create a new set of exit pages for any panel or sample provider.

1.1:  Creating a New Template

You can create a new exit page template by selecting the Add new exit page template button and providing the following information:

Name
Is any name you would like enter for the exit page template. Typically you would choose a name that helps you or others identify the correct template later on. This name is used for identification purposes only.
PCID
Can use up to 40 alphanumeric characters. This value needs to be supplied in the invitation url by your panel company in order for the custom exit pages to work. Example invitation URL with supplied PCID. A unique value should be used for each sample provider.
http://web5.kinesissurvey.com/wiki/html.pro?ID=32&identifier=56AX291F&pcid=pc
Where pc is the chosen identifier for the panel company
Usage instruction
Field can be used to enter notes and directions for anyone who uses the template. Any instruction entered here wil be displayed to the end user when the template is used.
Completes URL
Is where all completed respondents will be forwarded.
Profile URL
Is used when a respondent gets terminated because he/she didn't pass the screening criteria for the survey (Quota set to zero)
Quota URL
Is used when a respondent gets terminated because a quota is full.

All addresses need to start with http:// and be valid URLs.

2:  Adding Exit Pages

From the Exit Page manager you may add custom exit pages or create them based on an existing template. For either method you will need to specify the fields below. When adding a new exit page based on a template, some of these fields may contain pre-filled responses that you may wish to edit.

Panel Company Name
Is any name you would like enter for the panel company. This name is used for identification purposes only.
Method
Determines whether respondents are forwarded directly to the specified exit pages without showing the Kinesis Survey default exit pages defined in the info page manager.
  • Choose redirect if you want to skip the default termination pages defined with the Info Page Manager.
  • Choose default if you want to display the survey's exit pages and insert links manually.
  • Choose the post data only option if you want to post the data to another third party system and show the default termination pages
Link text
In the show default exit pages mode, %EXITLINK% variable is subsidised with the correct exit link that reads whatever is typed in the linktext field. If user clicks on this link a popup window will open and load the panel company's exit page. The %EXITLINK% variable can be used on all system exit pages which are "Thank you page","Profile terminated" and "Quota terminated" pages.
PCID
Can use up to 40 alphanumeric characters. This value needs to be supplied in the invitation url by your panel company in order for the custom exit pages to work. Example invitation URL with supplied PCID:
http://web5.kinesissurvey.com/wiki/html.pro?ID=32&identifier=56AX291F&pcid=pc
Where pc is the chosen identifier for the panel company
Project Identifier (optional)
Is supplied to you by the panel company. [PROJECTID] tag is automatically subsidized with this number on all the links. Some panel companies do not use this identifier so it is optional. You can also manually enter the project ID number on all of the links if you desire.
Completes URL
Is where all completed respondents will be forwarded.
Profile URL
Is used when a respondent gets terminated because he/she didn't pass the screening criteria for the survey (Quota set to zero)
Quota URL
Is used when a respondent gets terminated because a quota is full.

All addresses need to start with http://.

3:  URL Post Data

Kinesis Survey supports sending the data to third party system via HTTP POST. The post is done in the background to the URL provided. Posting data with this method is an advanced tool not commonly used by third-party panel providers. You may leave these fields blank. Contact your Kinesis Survey account manager if you have further questions about using this feature.

To activate the post feature, enter your receiver script address to the post URL field and selected the respondent statuses you want to receive data for. You can use either http:// for standard non encrypted POST or https:// for secure POST over SSL connection. In order to use SSL the target server must have valid SSL certificates installed. The post feature will not check if the post was successful and will fail transparently, therefore thoroughly test your receiver script for any potential errors.

Using encrypted HTTP POST via SSL is highly recommended!

The post request contains the following header fields:

[agent] => Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100722 Firefox/3.6.8 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0C)
[request] => /sv500/html.pro?ID=12826&pcid=ks
[status] => completed
[ipaddress] => 192.168.0.70
[identifier] => RES7343SS

The response data for each questions are posted along with the headers. Here Q1 is standard radio question and Q2 is a checkbox array.

[Q1] => 3
[Q2] => Array
(
	[0] => 0
	[1] => 1
	[2] => 1
	[3] => 1
	[4] => 0
)

4:  Exit URL variable piping

In general, any variable passed into the survey via the incoming URL can be used in the exit links by enclosing the variable name in square brackets. For instance if your invitation link contains the custom variable "myvar":

http://web5.kinesissurvey.com/wiki/html.pro?ID=1&myvar=2

and you would like to pass this value back to the panel company, add this to the exit links by using the tag [myvar]. For example:

http://www.panelcompany.com/completes.asp?pid=[IDENTIFIER]&myvar=[myvar]

You may also use [IDENTIFIER], [EMAIL] and [LOGIN] which will be subsidised with identifier or email supplied in the invitation link. The brackets indicate where the system will insert the actual stored value for that parameter, so if a respondent's myvar value is 5, the system will output &myvar=5 (not &myvar=[5]).

5:  Piping question answer into exit links

Along with system variables, you can also use question values in your exit links. If you want to pipe out a value from a particular question into an exit link, you can do so by using the same method as used above, replacing the variable name with the question label. The example below illustrates what you might use as an exit link if piping out a respondent's age (Q1) into the exit link.

http://www.panelcompany.com/completes.asp?ID=1&age=[Q1]

If needed, you can pipe out data from the following types of questions: radio, text, number and computational.

6:  e-Rewards Example

E-Rewards uses the ftouch variable in addition to a panelist ID number that needs to be passed back to the panel company.

An example link for the completes is below. Please note the use of the ftouch variable.

http://www.e-rewards.com/ai/complete.asp?ftouch=[ftouch]&id=[IDENTIFIER]

Since ftouch is enclosed in the square brackets this variable needs to be supplied with every invitation link along with PCID. Therefore if your invitation URL normally is (Invitation mode):

http://web5.kinesissurvey.com/wiki/html.php?ID=1&identifier=1234567890

The survey URL is now in Invitation Mode:

http://web5.kinesissurvey.com/wiki/html.php?ID=1&identifier=1234567890&pcid=er&ftouch=BP12345678901

Identifier and pcid must be used. Identifier will be available thru the [IDENTIFIER] variable. You may also use [identifier]. This link is unique for each respondent and is automatically generated by e-Rewards invitation system. Quota and terminate links are formulated similarly. e-Rewards links are pre-programmed into Exit Page Templates are ready for use.
