Datapoint Manager

Datapoints allow you to store unique information for respondents. This data can be exported or used for making custom queries. Datapoints can be added within the Datapoint manager, which can be accessed from the Panel functions menu listing.

NOTICE: Datapoint creation can be easily done through Panel/Survey integration wherein survey questions can be automatically inserted as datapoints into the panel.

1:  Datapoint Types

The following datapoint types can be created:

  • Single choice (radio)
  • Multiple choice (checkbox)
  • Open end
  • Date

2:  Adding Datapoints

To add a new datapoint, click the  icon.

From the popup box, choose which datapoint type you want to add and where you want to add it.

2.1:  Single or Multiple Choice

When creating a single or multiple select type datapoint, you can either select the number of choices you wish to create (and supply the text values on the following page) OR you can use the wizard which allows you to cut & paste the datapoint question and choice text. When using the cut & paste method, the question text should be on the first line with each choice text followed on an individual line. Do not include numbers for option choices; the system will strip these out, along with anything that appears to be programmer instructions. If you make a mistake, you can use the broom icon at the bottom of the page to begin again. When you are ready, hit 'next' to continue to the next screen. If you used the cut & paste method, the following screen will display how the system interpretted the question and choice texts. Click BACK to make any modifications or click ACCEPT to continue to the next step.

From the following screen you can make any edits to the final question text before saving as well as supply a label and/or custom values. The label will be used for internal referencing and custom values are applied to panel data exports. The choice function buttons can be used to add, delete or move choices. Click SAVE DATAPOINT when you are finished.

2.2:  Open end and Date

Creating either openend or date type datapoints, will only ask for the datapoint label and question text upon creation.

3:  Editing Existing Datapoints

The newly created datapoint should now be visible from the Datapoint Manager. Clicking the question text will allow you to make any edits to the datapoint. You can select datapoints by clicking the checkbox in the first column next to the datapoint label and perform any of the following actions:

Move selected

Allows you to move datapoints to another position in the list

Copy selected

Allows you to copy datapoints

Delete selected

Allows you to delete datapoints. Any data associated with a datapoint will be removed if the datapoint is deleted. If there is any existing data for a datapoint or it is used in any current sample queries/distributions a warning message will be displayed.

4:  Mapping system fields to datapoints

System fields are used to map datapoints to special functions. Each mapping tells the system which datapoint to use for certain functions. For example you would map panelist's first and last name to system fields so that the invitation manager can greet panelist with a personalized message (i.e. Hello John Doe). To map a system field to a datapoint, use the pulldown listed in the last column of the Datapoint Manager.

4.1:  System field types

The following system fields are available (shown with respective datapoint type required):

Openend
First name
Middle name
Last name
Street number
Address
Unit number
City
Zip-postal code
Alt email
Phone
Alt phone
Password
Language
Mobile phone
Mobile carrier
Radio (single select)
Gender
State-province
Country
Age Range
Date
Date of birth

4.2:  Mapping System Field Age Range

Prerequisites to mapping the Age Range system field: a Radio Data Point and the Age system field.

Below, the Radio Data Point is called AgeRange and is mapped to the Age Range system field.

Once the Data Point is mapped to the system field, the actual ranges must be set; this is necessary for the system to calculate the value of the Age Range for each Panelist.

Finally, the Age Range system field is automatically calculated and coded for the Panelists by the system.

5:  Grouping your datapoints

It is possible to group your datapoints into categories for easier navigation and filtering.

To make use of this functionality within your Datapoint Manager, click on "Manage groups" to add your new groups.

After you've created your groups, you must checked any datapoints you'd like to assign to a group and click on the "Assign to group" button at the bottom of the page.
